Life Change

There have been many changes in my life in the last 6 months. Realizations, love, loss, celebration, achievements, set backs and new friends and family. All of these steps have led me closer to who I will be for the rest of my life. Since I was young, I have wanted to travel.

There are many places on this list, but I have to start somewhere, so I booked my trip to Europe! September 28th, I am flying to Oslo, Norway and on December 23rd I am flying back to Boston from Madrid, Spain. I have posted on facebook, and I plan on using this blog for now as a means to keep friends and family update on my travel plans!

This trip will expand my view on life and force me to view the world through a wide angle lens so to speak. I plan on taking what I learn from this trip and allowing myself to grow into a better person. I hope to share my experience through photos, laughter with strangers, stories with friends and hugs for loved ones. Please wish me luck and if you would like to donate to my fund, feel free. I will not ask it of anyone that can not help. Please just know that I do appreciate any sort of help even if it just a tip or a name to look up!

You can donate here!

Sonja Lea Photography

Last year, I had my first paid photography experience. I was and assistant photographer for the Jumper Classic in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire. I shot multiple candid photos of the children’s corner, VIP sections, contests, vendor tents and press photos. I worked under the company Flashpoint Photography. I am very grateful and honored to say that I am getting the same opportunity this year, as one step up in the photography spectrum. I will be shooting the jumpers and their horses. I am pleased to say however, that I will be shooting for the woman who got me the job last year, Tammy Hardy!!

I have also taken the job as the wedding photographer for two weddings of close friends of my siblings. For no charge but at no expense of my own. I am doing these two for no charge only, and no others so I can build my portfolio and work on starting my business! I am also in the process of making a pricing sheet, which I know will change over time. I am hoping to book another wedding for this year…paid! With all this activity in my soon-to-be career, I have felt very inspired to get things going despite the awful economy.

I hope that if you are reading this, you can take a moment to check out my facebook page. The more people who now about it the better. My own web page will come soon enough, but until I have a steady flow of income, facebook will have to do! Thanks for reading and keep at your dreams, things do turn around eventually!

Portsmouth NH Apartment/Condo Scam

It’s been a while folks, but now that I am searching for apartments again, I thought I’d keep the public filled in on what I can! There was a 77 Hanover Street Condo for $700, I’ve even seen them for $600 or even under $1000. Be diligent, these condos are brand new and should not cost less then $1500-ish. The Unit number should be provided since there are a whole building full of condos. The buildings website has its own realtor, so be cautious and check with her about any available ads!

The following is the first email I received from this contact on craigslist:

[Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to look at my property. My name is Lynda Bannett, I'm 43 years old,I'm the owner of this condo(1 bedrooms,1bathrooms, 900 square footage). It's located in 77 Hanover St , Portsmouth , NH 03801 .The unit is equipped with recessed lighting, central air and heat, the condo come with two parking spots,a storage unit where you can deposit my furniture (if you don't like it and you want use your furniture),there is also a linen closet, and most importantly, a new front loading stacked washer and drier.Pets allowed.I've moved to United Kingdom with my job and decided to rent it because the rent is very expensive here. The price is so low because I'm here and is very hard to find a tenant.I can rent you the condo for min. 1 month and max. 6 years(or more).I really want to find a good and responsible tenant for it, and I hope that you can send me some personal information about yourself. The rent for whole the condo for 1 month is $700.00 including all utilities(water, electricity, internet, cable, parking , airconditioning, fireplace, dishwasher, garbage) and the security deposit is $700.00 (you'll get the deposit back at your departure-or you can use it to pay your last month of rent) and I want to receive the money monthly in my bank account. You can move in the condo in the same day when you receive the keys. The only problem is that I`m the only person who has the keys and I have nobody in United States that could show you the condo. In order to check it, see if you like it(I'm sure that you'll love it), you need to receive the keys and the contract.
If you want to rent the condo, please e-mail me back and I will explain you how the payment and shipping will take place!

Have a nice day]

Not being able to see the condo before getting the keys and contract seemed sketchy; however through a false hope and a slight investigative itch, I persisted to ask questions and find out steps for payment “she” replied with this:

[ Thank you for your reply.
Before going further with anything I must tell you that for payments I will use the eBay Company, they will secure the transaction of payments. I will open a CASE ID# at eBay Company for this transaction and I will give them your full name, shipping info, phone# and indicate you as my tenant. After that, they will contact you with the payment details, and they will ask you to send them a refundable deposit, $1,400.00 in 24 hours(the money will be for the first month of rent + the security deposit). After they receive your deposit, they will notify me immediately to start the shipping of the keys and the contract. You will receive a  tracking number in max 24 hours after they receive your deposit. The keys will reach to you in 3-4 days. After you'll receive the keys and the contract, the 14 days of inspection period will start( you'll have 14 days to see the condo, read the contract, decide if you keep the condo or not). After the inspection you will contact them and tell your decision: TAKE THE CONDO or NOT TAKE THE CONDO! In case you'll take it you'll have to send them a copy of the contract signed by you and they will release the money to me, if not you'll have to send them the contract unsigned and they will refund your money($1,400.00), the contract and the keys will be shipped back at my expenses! I will pay the shipping and you'll have to pay the money transfer fee for the refundable deposit.
Once again:
1. If you have the money $1,400.00 and if you want to rent it send me your full name, your shipping address and your phone#
2. I will open a CASE ID# at eBay Company for this transaction , and I will give them your info, and indicate you as my tenant.
3. After that, they will contact you with the payment details(you'll have to send them $1,400.00 via money transfer in the next 24 hours-you'll need cash)
4. After they receive your deposit, they will notify me immediately to start the shipping, and you will receive a  tracking number in max 24 hours after they receive your deposit.
5.From the moment you receive the keys the 14 days inspection period will start.I will make the transaction only in this way so if you have the money and if you want to rent my condo send me your full name, your shipping address, your phone# and I'll start the procedure.

Thanks]

Once I replied to this email with a simple “what unit number is this?”, she has not gotten back to me. I had searched online the address and saw they all had unit numbers. If this person does get back to me, I will update, but thus far, responding each following day and then stopping, is quite suspicious, not to mention the add is no longer on craigslist.

Beware folks of this name: Lynda Bannett and this email : hampshirelb1@hotmail.com   and always be thorough with your background searches!!! Good Luck!

Pet Art Idea

Well, since mid December I have been working at a Dog Hotel/Daycare.  I love this job for the simple fact that I am working with animals and not humans. Don’t get me wrong, they can get attitudes and have bad days just like us, but at the end of it all, I feed them and they (most of them anyway) are always willing to give a cuddle afterward.

During my time at the hotel I have photographed dogs that I like or find unique or ones that seem to like the camera.  I will be posting some here and was wondering if any of my readers (if any, since I am so random with my posts) could tell me what they(you) think of making work out of this idea…

I plan to paint some of the ones that have a nice composition or are just intriguing. If I can find work in New Hampshire (My boyfriend and I are moving there in less than 3 weeks) at a doggie daycare, I’d like to photograph peoples pets in their element, instead of in a strange studio with boring sheets.

I suppose the point/question is:

If I were to make prints of these or paint them, do you think people would buy them? Would you purchase something like that of your pet?

Please feel free to respond!

Cambridge Family Health

This blog may have come a tad late; however, I felt time from the incident was necessary to avoid irrational writing, given the situation was very infuriating.

As part of a back story, I would like to share that I have no health insurance, so in an attempt to save money I found a health clinic that charged its patients based on a sliding scale fee.  After some research, I found Cambridge Family Health to be the only one in proximity to my address.  I had had one previous appointment, at which time I had my income checked and became eligible for a 50% off discount on my visits and labwork.

On November 11th, I had an appointment to check out some chest pains I had been having for almost 2 years. Upon arrival, the receptionist informed me that my doctor visit today would be $45, not including what lab work may be done.  Perfectly understandable; how would the receptionist know what charges would be added on in the future. I agreed to the price (so far),  she took my debit card as collateral and I waited for my name to be called.

Once I entered the exam room, the nurse and I went over all the symptoms and previous action taken regarding my chest pains.  After I told him that the last EKG I’d had was over a year ago, he suggested I have another one done, and asked if I had the $25 to pay for it today.  I did so he went on to fetch the doctor. After the doctor went over my symptoms again, another nurse came in to administer the EKG. After this nurse ran the machine 5 times, she left and said, “Doctor will be back with the results.” I dressed and waited for my doctor’s return.

Fifteen or twenty minutes later, my doctor comes in, apologizes for the wait (another clinic needed some information) and went over the results with me. She drew a makeshift heart on the back of my review sheet to help explain the results; however any exams to be done that would find a definite problem would have to come from a cardiologist. So in the end, I was given a referral to a cardiologist and a prescription for a “just in case” situation, conclusively no answers. She then sent me to the check out man, which is where the point of this blog is found.

After a couple minutes of the man in front of me looking at the computer screen and saying nothing, my lack of patience asked, “So it’ll be $70 right?” The man in front of me said no. So I proceeded to inquire as to why since I was quoted $45 for the doctor visit and the nurse had told me $25 for the EKG, no labs were done so it should have come to $70.

The man in front of me told me that the nurse who told me the price of the EKG was wrong and he should not have told me that price. He began to explain the price, instead of showing me a print out or the screen. It is a plain fact that his English was not very comprehensible, so the explanation was very confusing, especially since he started with “the doctor visit was $78″. I immediately insisted that the price was wrong, after all I was quoted $45 by the woman sitting 5 feet from the man in front of me, who said nothing throughout this whole conversation to help. I then became emotional and told the man to just run my card, since I couldn’t leave without it and he was not open to reason, so I could leave.

I got home, after making a not so quiet exit, and immediately called the billing office. A woman returned my phone call at 10 minutes to 5. The woman on the phone did not quite know why the prices were not as I was told so she consulted her supervisor and was supposed to get back to me on Friday at 3pm. I never heard from her, so I called them on Saturday and left a message for someone to call me back with answers, since I had another appointment, the following Wednesday. I wanted to clear any financial issue before I returned. Monday passed and still no phone call. I then called them again and finally got to speak to someone. The supervisor got on the phone and explained everything clearly. Apparently, my doctor visit was $78, and she informed me that it was $45 but that the doctor has the ability to change it if she/he feels that the work done for the patient required a higher price.

SOOOOO, to sum up a bit, my price was changed because the doctor felt she worked more than she expected, when really she only gave me a referral and made me wait while she dealt with another office and gave me a prescription. My EKG was really $95 so half of that is $47.50 and my doctor visit was changed to cost $160, when it originally cost $90, so I paid $80 and plus my EKG fee the total came to $125 and I was left with under $30 in my bank account.

The whole experience of going to a discount health clinic is still cheaper than a regular doctor’s office, but there is no saying what the doctor will charge, since it is to their discretion.

This blog is to say BEWARE of CAMBRIDGE FAMILY HEALTH! They do not stick by their prices and to add just a bit, you can only have one thing checked out per visit.

Possible UTI Instigator

I was visiting with a friend a week ago for some home made Sangria. It was delicious, but that is not the point of this article. We were discussing different ways to make the Sangria, and I brought up how to make it with white wine. She told me that white wine causes her to have UTI‘s (urinary tract infections).

She said that she would drink it on Thursdays with her husband and a few days later she would have a UTI. She went to the doctor and they recommended she cut white wine out of her diet, just to eliminate that as a possible cause.  When she stopped drinking the white wine, she stopped getting UTIs.

So just as a precautionary note for women everywhere. If you are someone who gets UTIs often and also drink white wine, try drinking red or rose instead, and see if it helps. Do not get me wrong I love wine, this article is not meant to badmouth and white wine or their makers, however a woman’s health is often misunderstood and complicated, so here is a just a suggestion that without my friend I never would have though of.

Escort Driver Job Scam

I was searching for some quick money jobs, that didn’t require my getting naked. I stumbled upon a link that read $300-$500 per shift, for driving escorts around Las Vegas. The website had a phone number (818-857-2489)and an email (TRANSPORTERS00@YMAIL.COM) to contact them with.  The add promised $300 at the beginning of your shift in cash, then after tips, usually accumulate around $500.

When I first called, the woman answered asking when I would like to work. I told her some time during the following week. She told me to call the day I wanted to work. I asked her if I could use my own car or if I was supposed to use the company car and she told me either one would do.  I called the woman the following day since I got out of work early, she asked me if I had $300 to give to them and I told her no. She then hung up the phone.

I have tried to make any scam type job I come across known to public or at least make the information publicly accessible. I feel like us innocent job searching folk should stick together. I hope this article helps someone to avoid forking over $300 for nothing. Here is a website of comments about this woman and her scams.
